We watch how ice slides into the sea Or huge chunks suddenly break off But that’s far, far away and so We choose not to act and stop What is happening now At the other end of the world. We see how stifling heat in other places Is making life unbearable How cracked and parched earth Will lead to hunger for masses But we turn away and just ignore What is happening now At the other end of the world. We view reports of island homes Victims to the encroaching sea How floods sweep away What lives people have had. But we decide not to care about What is happening now At the other end of the world. We look at news of how land Is battered by whipping winds With swirling storms leaving Trails of havoc in their wake. But we prefer not to worry about What is happening now At the other end of the world. It is now that we should Face those distant threats But it seems we want to wait, Wait until the other end of the world Comes to us and then is here to stay. |
