   Deathwatch
Trapped in a dark place
It impacts us all.
Nature can tell apart
Our words and missing deeds.
Only too well it knows
That setting a target
Is not reaching a goal.

Those with unfounded claims
In their glossy world of unreality
Feign concern.
Fiddling at the edges
They talk of the path to zero and
Indulge in brazen greenwashing.
Concealing their aims
Misusing the force of state
To ensure their goals are met.
Just fronts for vested interests
Devious, underhand
Labyrinthine.

But die back and die away
Leave no chance to
Recover and restore
No hope to ever
Preserve and sustain.

What looms ahead of us
In the distance? A distance
We are hurtling towards.
And we seem to choose
Anything rather than act:
Just accept that we cannot
See the stars anymore.
What is there left to do
But grieve?
