The tellers of mendacious stories Seek to dispell our fears Dismantle our worries. They sow doubt and dissent Pushback, discredit and poison The well of honest exchange. They weaponise our words To convey their meanings, not ours. They twist our talk Into entangled nets To lull us into sham safety: Avoid alarm, just be concerned Dismiss dire warnings And be advocates Of a sane world. How many gladly accept Words which understate. Seeking a space where They can turn to other concerns. How late we are in the game: Witnesses of quickening change, We seek to downplay the problems We ourselves have caused Which leaves us living In a fantasy world. |
