   Seduction
They’re led by a fear of change
A longing for an unmoving past
Just among their own, a past
Viewed with tinted eyes.

Then one came offering
The freedom to tell lies
And claim they’re true.
Parading a show of strength
To silence any who disagree
And lull his followers
Into willing submission.

Then came the welling up
Of contained hatred,
An unchecked freedom
To loathe and condemn others:
Exhilarating, intoxicating.

Here is the poison of
Intolerance and dismissal.
Telling us outright to
Ignore our lying eyes
Distrust our lying ears:
Manufacture a narrative
And sell it as truth.

The only view is that of power
The only stance is that of control
Unfettered authority
Hitting out at the weak
While surrounded by
Grovelling flatterers
And conniving enablers
Pitching for their advantage
And forcing all to accept
Their vision for the land.
