We live in heady days How much have changed our ways! And we are all so busy It truly makes us dizzy. All this is for our good We're told that now we should Consume, conform, and not rebel Exceed, abound, yet more excel. But sometimes in our land These things get out of hand And we are told once more By those who keep the score: Just let things take their course Allow the rein of market force. What if the quickened pace Causes some to lose the race And bear a bitter plight? Oh not to worry, We're in a hurry, Just keep them out of sight. The new, the rich, they shine so bright, Stand at the fore, enjoy the light For this is Ireland at its goal At last we stand in full control. Well there you are, what strange affair! What can I say? Just now declare: Peculiar to our modern breed Is everywhere unbridled greed.
